Crucible Projects Options. Will be assigned on Nov 30 --Due Dec 10th

                             Project Assignment Choices for The Crucible = MAJOR GRADE

You will choose 1 of the projects below to complete. Creativity, neatness, correct spelling/grammar/punctuation does count!
You may work alone or in pairs.

Project #1: Newspaper OR Magazine:  by yourself or in pairs

Create a newspaper for others to read about the events that happened in Salem.  Look at real life newspapers/magazines to see the format/layout/variety of sections.  You must include the following items, and you may add items that are not on the list to demonstrate your creativity.

Cover the 5 W’s:  Who, What, When, Where, Why
____1 Headline story/ if a pair – 2 headline stories                                          
____2 Minor stories                                                                            
____Volume/issue number, dates                                  
____1 Editorial/if a pair – 2 Editorials (a piece from the editor or reader that expresses a strong opinion on a current hot topic)   
____1 Section of your choice (possibilities: comic strip, word search, events calendar, opinion poll)
____Pictures with captions to go with your stories
____Advice section
____Classifieds (section that advertises jobs/goods to be sold)
____A “works cited” page
*Any extra sections/special touches will increase your grade

Project #2 Soundtrack CD Booklet Project

Pretend you are a music producer.  You have been asked to create a soundtrack for The Crucible. The following project involves creating a CD booklet. You will focus on the themes of the play- reputation, hysteria, and intolerance.  You will also consider tone, mood, characterization, and symbols.

The CD booklet must include the following:

On the Front of the Cover
______ A background pic of a scene from the play.
______ The name of the CD that relates to one of the play's themes.
______ The name of the band that relates to one of the characters, symbols, or themes.


Inside the booklet
______ A list of 6 songs
    The titles must relate to the theme/story elements:
(1) Made up song title related to reputation theme
(2) Made up song title related to reputation theme                         
(3) Made up song title related to hysteria theme                           
(4) Made up song title related to hysteria theme                            
(5) Made up song title related to intolerance theme
(6) Made up song title related to intolerance theme

  ______ Lyrics (2 lyrics total, printed):
        *Create lyrics for any 2 of the made up songs. Print the lyrics for the booklet.

 ______ Produce the 2 songs on Garage Band or some other similar program/app (www.audiosauna.com) / (soundation.com)
 ______ Burn the 2 songs onto a disk.

On the Back of the booklet
1.      A list of 6 songs — the same 6 songs that are included inside the booklet.
2.      A background pic of a scene from the play.

·       Abby threatening the girls
·       the girls' fits/"possession"/accusations in court
·       the bird scene or any of the other court scenes
·       Proctor's affair
·       Rev. Hale's arrival
·       the poppet scene
·       the arrest of the "respected people" (Giles, Martha, Elizabeth, John, Rebecca Nurse)
·       Any of Marry Warren's scenes
·       Rev. Hale's denouncement of the trials
·       the final scene in the play
·       Tituba's beating/false confession
·       John forgetting the 10 commandments
·       Elizabeth's lie
·       Giles's death
·       Andover Rebellion

·       Betty and Ruth Putnam’s mysterious symptoms

BIBLICAL Allusions/definitions PASSOVER In the  Book of Exodus , God helped the  Israelites  escape from slavery in  ancient Egypt  by inflicting  ten plagues  upon the Egyptians before the  Pharaoh  would release the Israelite slaves. The last of the plagues was the  death of the Egyptian first-born .
